The NBA Draft Lottery is tonight. The order of the top 14 picks in June’s draft will be determined by the bounce of a few ping pong balls. You can check out each team’s odds and play the lottery simulator at Tankathon.

Discovering which team will select first overall is always fascinating, but this year’s lottery bears incredible significance to the entire league. Why? Zion Wiliamson, widely expected to be selected first overall, is the most anticipated prospect since King James himself in 2003.

There are fourteen teams who could land the top overall selection and the rights to Zion. Naturally, the question must be asked: Which team would make the best fit for Zion?

There’s two ways to look at “best fit”: from a on the court, purely basketball perspective and from a media coverage/hype perspective. Some teams have rosters tailor-made for Zion’s talents and would maximize his potential, while others would fill sports talk show segments for months.

Some teams may fit both, one or neither of these categories. I’m going to rank all 14 teams in terms of basketball fit and entertaining storylines.

Basketball Fit

14. Washington Wizards

Zion doesn’t deserve to be trapped with a washed John Wall, who may or may not let Zion ever touch the ball.

13. Charlotte Hornets

If Kemba leaves this summer, who exactly is Zion going to play with? Cody Zeller? No thanks.

12. Philadelphia 76ers

The Sixers already have spacing issues and difficulties with their stars meshing.

11. Phoenix Suns

We still don’t really know what Devin Booker’s ceiling is. There seems to be plenty of talent in Phoenix — Booker, 2018 #1 overall pick DeAndre Ayton, Mikal Bridges, Josh Jackson — but it hasn’t led to wins.

10. Cleveland Cavaliers

I’m not down with the Colin Sexton and Zion show.

9. New York Knicks

It’s hard to judge the Knicks because we have no idea who will be on the team in two months. Would Zion be playing with Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving? Or Frank Ntilikina and Allonzo Trier?

8. Miami Heat

There are a lot of interesting pieces in Miami: Josh Richardson, Goran Dragic, Justise Winslow, Bam Adebayo. None of them can shoot, though.

7. Los Angeles Lakers

Does any lineup in the league have a higher ceiling/lower floor potential than LeBron, Zion, Brandon Ingram, Kyle Kuzma, and Lonzo Ball?

6. Chicago Bulls

This is where the Zion can start getting excited. The Bulls quietly have a solid young core in Wendell Carter Jr., Lauri Markkanen, and Zach LaVine, but are in need of a star.

5. New Orleans Pelicans

Zion might be enough to convince AD to hang around for a little bit. AD, Zion and Jrue Holiday is a terrifying trio.

4. Memphis Grizzlies

3. Minnesota Timberwolves

Zion and Karl Anthony Towns together? That has a chance to become a truly special frontcourt.

2. Atlanta Hawks

Already among the most fun teams to watch, the Hawks become the team to watch with Zion. I’m already salivating at the thought of a Trae Young, Kevin Huerter, Taurean Prince, Zion, John Collins lineup.

#1 Dallas Mavericks

Zion and Luka. Luka and Zion. Oh, and Porzingis? Sign me up for Zion in Dallas.

Entertainment

14. Charlotte Hornets

Zion might be enough to keep Kemba in Charlotte, but it’s still Charlotte.

13. Memphis Grizzlies

Memphis is a near-perfect basketball fit, but its perhaps the league’s smallest market.

12. Washington Wizards

Zion doesn’t deserve Washington’s dysfunctional mess and no roster flexibility.

11. Phoenix Suns

Any team that believes Ja Morant is a better fit for their team than Zion doesn’t deserve to have Zion. (I actually like Morant quite a bit, for the record.)

10. Cleveland Cavaliers

Cleveland had LeBron (twice), and won the lottery three times in the four years LeBron was in Miami. Maybe let another city play their hand with generational talent this time.

9. Minnesota Timberwolves

Wiggins would still probably think he’s the best player on the team.

8. Miami Heat

Williamson County, anyone? Just kidding, but damn this could be fun.

7. Dallas Mavericks

I’ll say it again: Zion and Luka, Luka and Zion. That duo alone is enough to make up for Dallas’s smallish sized market.

6. Chicago Bulls

The NBA’s third largest market with the echoes of Jordan still reverberating. Plus the dunk contests between LaVine and Zion in practice.

5. Atlanta Hawks

Atlanta might not be the biggest city or have the most devoted fans, but it certainly has the “it” factor.

4. New Orleans Pelicans

Could Zion be enough to keep Anthony Davis? How does that affect the Lakers, Celtics and Knicks plans to acquire superstars? The ripple effects of New Orleans winning the lottery would be felt across the league.

3. Philadelphia 76ers

Someone would have to be the odd man out if Philly landed Zion’s rights, but who would it be? Philly fans could barely handle Big Dick Nick’s powers, how would they manage the power of Zion?

2. Los Angeles Lakers

Zion and LeBron…. need I say more?

#1 New York Knicks

It’s almost more entertaining if the Knicks lose the lottery and their fans are either driven into a depression or motivated to go on a killing spree, but not quite. Zion deserves to play every night in Madison Square Garden. Or do the Knicks trade him for AD? And the greatest hypothetical conspiracy theory of all:
